University Of Science & Arts Of Oklahoma Remains Perfect Against SAGU with 4-Game Sweep

Friday and Saturday, the No. 9 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (23-7, 13-1 SAC) swept a pair of double-headers against Southwestern Assemblies of God University (13-11-1, 6-6 SAC). The Drovers swept Friday's double-header with an 8-0 victory in the opener, followed by a 11-3 triumph in game two. Both of Friday's games only went five innings, due to the "mercy rule."

On Saturday, the Drovers earned a 5-0 victory in game three of the series, followed by a walk-off 12-4 win in the series finale. 

 

With the four wins, the Drovers improve to 37-0 against the Lions in the all-time series, which dates back to April 11, 2014. Furthermore, USAO is now owns an 18-2 record in the month of March this season. 

-GAME 1-

The Drovers captured an early lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning and extended their lead to 7-0 with a six-run out in the second. 

The score remained 7-0 until the bottom of the fifth when USAO ended the game with one more run to enforce the "mercy rule."

Sophie Williams delivered her second no-hitter of the season as she mowed down the SAGU batters, striking out 12 batters in 5.0 innings. 

As a team, the Drovers recorded eight hits, coming from seven different players.

Leading the way was Jaclyn Gray, going 2-3 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in. Macenzie Ruth produced a pair of RBIs with a 1-3 performance, which included one run and a pair of stolen bases.

Jadyn Goucher and Sierra Selfridge each doubled and scored a run in the win. Malea McMurtrey concluded 1-2 with a stolen base, two runs scored, and a run batted in, while Jaylee Willis went 1-2 with a run scored and a run batted in.

Slater Eck finished 1-2 with a run scored and a pair of stolen bases.

 

-GAME 2-

Just as they did in game one, the Drovers took an early lead with one run in the bottom of the first inning, followed by SEVEN runs in the bottom of the third. 

The Lions cut into the deficit with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth, but USAO managed to push across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and took a 10-3 lead into the fifth inning. Science & Arts scored one run in the fifth inning, ending the game early, due to the "mercy rule."

Abi Gregory got the start in the circle and improved her record to 12-2 as she struck out six batters in 3.1 innings of work.

Katelyn Trumbley relieved Gregory and delivered 1.2 innings of scoreless work. 

As a team, the Drovers produced 10 hits, coming from eight different players. Tyler Trott led the way, going 2-3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Macenzie Ruth also recorded a pair of hits, going 2-4 with a pair of runs scored and four stolen bases. 

Malea McMurtrey contributed a 1-2 performance that included a pair of walks, four stolen bases, three runs scored, and a run batted in.

Jaclyn Gray finished 1-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored, and a run batted in. Jaycee Kievit went 1-2 with a pair of RBIs, while Jaylee Willis went 1-3 with a double, a run scored, and three runs batted in. Slater Eck concluded 1-2 with a triple and a run batted in, followed by Sierra Selfridge who went 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a RBI.

 

-GAME 3-

Once again, the Drovers used a hot start to gain control of the game early. USAO pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by Jaclyn Gray's two-run homerun over the scoreboard in left field. 

Science & Arts extended the lead to 3-0 with a run in the second inning, but the score remained 3-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning, when USAO scored their final two runs of the game. 

Five runs was more than enough, as Sophie Williams delivered her sixth shutout of the season and improved her record to 10-4. Williams surrendered only two hits and she struck out 11 batters in 7.0 innings of work. 

Offensively, the Drovers recorded seven hits from seven different players. Jaclyn Gray concluded 1-3 with a homerun and two RBIs. Macenzie Ruth, Jaycee Kievit, Jadyn Goucher, Sierra Selfridge, Tyler Trott, and Slater Eck each singled in the shutout victory.

 

-GAME 4-

For the fourth game in a row, the Drovers scored in the opening inning of play, bring in a pair of run in the bottom of the first. 

USAO added one run in the third inning, but SAGU immediately responded with a run of their own in the top of the fourth, cutting the Lions' deficit to 3-1.

The Drovers extended the lead to 4-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth, prior to the Lions tying the score at 4-4 with a trio of runs in. the top of the sixth. 

The brief tie lit a fire for USAO and they went on to score EIGHT runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, forcing the game to end early due to the "mercy rule." The sixth inning was highlighted by Tyler Trott's three-run, walk-off homerun to deep left field. 

Abi Gregory improved her record to 13-2 as she went all six innings, and she struck out five batters.

As a team, the Drovers compiled 13 hits, coming from eight different players. Sierra Selfridge led the way for USAO's offense, going 3-4 with a run scored and three runs batted in. 

Jaycee Kievit finished 2-3 with a double, a run scored, and three runs batted in. 

Macenzie Ruth concluded 2-3 with a pair of runs scored and two stolen bases. Ruth now owns 119 stolen bases in her marvelous career, which ranks second in program history, behind Shyla Clouse's 128. 

Slater Eck also tallied a pair of hits, going 2-3 with a stolen base. 

Tyler Trott finished 1-4 with the walk-off, three-run homer. Malea McMurtrey drove in a pair of runs and scored a pair of runs as she concluded 1-4 at the plate. Jaclyn Gray went 1-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in, while Jaylee Willis went 1-2 with a run scored.
